About Tilshead

Size and Location

Tilshead is a village with approximately 140 houses and 350 people.  Tilshead is located in Wiltshire in the South West of England on the A360 Salisbury to Devizes road and is completely surrounded by military training land.  There are a number of sites of botanical, scientific and archaeological interest in the area. King Alfred’s Way cycle route passes through the village.

Tilshead has a Voluntary Aided Church of England primary school  with over 60 children on roll.  The school has an active Parents’ Association.  Most of the children move on to Lavington School near Devizes which, from September 2018, will also include sixth form provision.

Both the Village Hall and the small but well-used playing field are run by a committee of volunteers and are the venues for much of the social life of the village.  Just off the High Street there are allotments available to rent.

There is also a Church, a fuel station with a shop and cash machine and a public house.  The village is served by a mobile library service and a regular bus service between Salisbury and Devizes.

There is a campsite, smaller occassional campsites and guest accommodation available in and around the village.
